Candy in Cahoots is based on retro 1950s imagery of the romanticized wild west!  Each candy is a play on a Wild West trope, and the packaging is intended to reflect that. The licorice is actually a lasso in a saddle bag, the gold nugget chocolates are in a tin to represent panning for gold, the sarsaparilla is a play on a six shooter in its holster, the dynamite contains popping candy that acts as dynamite powder, and the black rock candy acts as coal in a mining cart.  The paper choice and limited color scheme is to refer back to candy from the 1950s.  Each package is tangible, no mockups were used!
